The projection for this weekend workshop was to think together, using multiple languages, about connections between:

·                  Theory and practice

·                  Teaching and research

·                  Work and play

·                  Reality and imagination

·                  Reason and emotion

·                  Creativity and rationality

·                  Individual and group

A classroom environment was chosen to support teachers connections between the theory and practice of the classroom. The teacher kindly agreed to us meeting in a space which is assembled and reassembled many times each week and is, therefore, not the way she would like it to be.

The intention was that we would create a learning environment and work together to make meaning of the ‘how’ of teaching.

Intended purposes were, therefore:

1.   To identify and articulate personal values about teaching and learning in the classroom

2.   To identify and articular personal philosophies and understandings of literacy and the teaching of reading.

3.   To update knowledge about the meanings of literacy and teaching approaches for reading.

4.   To explore a range of strategies for teaching and learning.

5.   To develop a structure for teaching and learning in the classroom.
