From the beginning aimed to focus on the principles of teaching and learning from Reggio Emilia:
· The image of the child as strong, capable and curious
· Enriching play and using the environment
· Documenting learning
· Working with families and colleagues.
The session began with introductions and reflections on our own experiences. The intentions for the weekend that emerged from these discussions were:
To learn more about the philosophy and practice of teaching and learning in Reggio Emilia
To add layers to our own beliefs and practices
To think about creating learning environments
To gather ideas for boys “who get out there” and girls “who are fiddly fiddly”
To find different ways for children to learn
To gather ideas about working effectively with limited resources
To find out how to document the learning more effectively so that parents understand what we are doing
To find how to put this into practice
To think about how this might look in each of our settings
To get more guidance into keeping the learning going
